Pods available this weekend, turn up with your toothbrush and clean undies, that’s all you need! Its not a bad view to be waking up to and it’s gonna be sunny, well that’s what they are forecasting just don’t hold me to it!!!
Wow what a day! Beautiful blue skies meaning we can mow for the second time this year! The fields are completely dry after a horrifically wet and muddy Easter and if you don’t get distracted you will see the sign that summer is on its way!! Can you see them, the swallows swooping about, a sure sign of summer.
What an amazing weekend we had, for 2 and a bit days we had no rain, none, the fields dried out people could actually drive on them!!! We even sat in the garden on Sunday and had a barbie. I walked the dog without getting wet and muddy, or slipping over, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve gone down on my well padded bum this winter!!!
Then in came Monday like Miley Cyrus on a wrecking ball!!! 50 mph winds and rain! However this is just a blip the weather is looking better after this little squall has gone!!
Can we just take a moment to remember to be kind, I have had so much kindness shown to me since we have opened, the hugs have been welcomed and the words of support have been amazing and I want to take a minute to thank you all.
We opened on the 29th March and it’s been tough the weather has far from been on our side and it’s been a struggle for all of us. It is definitely not the ideal situation, we have been towing people on and off pitches, we’ve had people pitching up in the car park and on our hard standing pitch, we’ve put people up in pods when their tents haven’t survived.
Kindness and compassion go along way and it’s such an easy thing to do.
Ps I’m still taking hugs, so remember to bring them when you come!!!
You’ll have to excuse us, we are still on coconut time! . We packed up the motorhome on Sunday and took a few days off and went to Cornwall, so today we’re feeling jet lagged, exhausted and have a Mountain of washing, yup even after just 3 days, but we’re back to work today, it might be more of a sloth pace though!!!
We had a dry but really windy day (not as windy as predicted) until about 6pm when the monsoon started!!! Oh did it rain, and then it stopped and then it rained and then it really really rained!!!
Anyone else loving this weather!!! No just me then, oh no, I’m not, I’m so over it I’ve decided to eat my weight in comfort food and hibernate!!!
Shall we talk about this Weekends and next week’s weather??!!! It’s fair to say it’s going to be awful, they are forecasting very high winds up to 50mph gusts and rain, so much rain, will it definitely happen, that I cannot tell you, but it might, so as we always do, if you are booked to stay with us at the weekend or next week and don’t fancy coming then drop us an email and we will credit your booking so that you can come and stay with us when it’s sunny, who knows when that will be!!! Camping is not fun in the wind and rain and if you can’t get in the sea or walk on the beach what else is there to do here????
Just seen this online, the smell of garlic constantly throughout your stay, you know that when the garlic heats up inside your tent it’s gonna be fresh, or a couple of harvestmen spiders, think I’d stick with the spiders!!
Some of you may have noticed the new toilet layout over the weekend, we have upgraded the toilets so that you can poop side by side, because the couple who poops together, stays together!!!
You know it’s muddy when you’re going to work in a tractor!!!
This weekend has not started the way would have liked with having to tow people on and off of pitches, but you can’t help the weather right?! Even if it does produce the most brightest magical rainbow!!!
We do want to say a huge thank you to everyone that came and stayed with us, everyone was just so happy to finally get the camping season started that you were not phased by the weather and were in such high spirits. But can everyone start doing a sun dance now because we are over the rain!!!
Todays the day, we are open, yesterday’s snow has gone, the rain has gone (keep everything crossed it stays away all weekend, it’s supposed to!)
We cannot wait to see all of our regulars and meet lots of new people, the team will be different this year with mum passing suddenly in January dad is taking time out for himself, you’ll see him here and there, but Tim and I will be here (admittedly I will have to take some time out over the next few months, I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer 2 weeks ago, follow my story over @homewiththewhites I won’t be posting much of it on here)
At the end of last year Pat our warden moved on to a new job after 2 years with us but we have found 2 lovely new wardens to help us out, they have been with us since the beginning of March helping us get ready and have been amazing.
Let’s make the 2024 camping season amazing because as you have read the start of this year has not been the best and we’re only in month 3!!!
Errrrrrrr what!!!!! Check your calendars this is not an April fools!!!! We have snow!!!!! Yesterday I joked that it was the coldest day we’ve had all winter but I was not expecting to wake up to this!!! I was up super early getting pics because in all honesty it’s going to melt quick, it had all ready started melting by the time I started walking back home.
We are opening tomorrow this is not scheduled into our plans!!!
Love my morning walks, we do have a dog walk area on site but if you cross the road from ours and take the footpath in 2 minutes you get views like this. Best place to watch the sunset and see the deer’s!!
All hands on deck today with potentially the last dry day before we open, fuelled by chip butties, Tim was fixing roofs, dad and I were on the mowers, Esme and my niece were planting trees and litter picking and our new wardens, were painting the buildings.
We had a lovely walk around Morte point yesterday, and we saw seals, 🦭 I love seeing these little chubby guys bobbing about in the sea. You can guarantee every time you walk around there you will see seals.
We also found a new path that we have never walked and got amazing views of Woolacombe.
If I’m in Barnstaple there is one place I go for food and that’s @charliescafe_barnstaple if you’ve seen my stories, you will already know that!
Charlie’s is 100% gluten free, all the cakes, bread, biscuits, are all made in their little kitchen they have a great range on their menu from full English breakfast to vegan pesto toasties, pancakes and their cakes, have I mentioned their cakes?! If you’re gluten free you will know how hard it is to find bread and cakes that don’t taste like cardboard and with every bite you need a slurp of water!! Or even find something on a menu that you can eat that is not a salad or chips! But not here, this little cafe is dedicated to all your gf needs, and you don’t need to worry about contamination.
If you’re in Barnstaple and need a quick lunch, sneaky treat then make sure you pop in, whether you’re gf or not, you honestly wouldn’t know it’s gf and the staff are amazing, so friendly and chatty. And if you do go remember me and bring me a cake!!! I’ll take any I’m not fussy!!!
Well I have lots of empty shelves to fill , but if you know me, I am quite capable of doing that!
Now to get everything else sorted, also it’s not just me doing this Tim has had his jobs to do and we have new wardens, who have been working so hard with getting the site ready, they have been chief cleaners, weeders, scrubbers and doing amazing!
